Supervision CEU: Training School Staff - Part 2: Designing SMART Goal Aligned Trainings

BCBAs working in school settings face a unique implementation problem: the people delivering the interventions they design are not behavior analysts. They are paraprofessionals, general education teachers, special education teachers, and aides — a workforce with enormously varied educational backgrounds, competing professional priorities, and constrained time for training.

Course Description

This section equips BCBAs with a structured, 7-step framework to design role-specific training plans for school personnel. Using SMART goals, learning objectives, and adult learning strategies, participants will design practical, engaging, and legally defensible training content. Emphasis is placed on aligning training topics with skill needs across roles (e.g., behavior prompting for aides, data fidelity for RBTs, reinforcement systems for teachers).

What You'll Learn

  1. Design individualized training plans aligned with staff roles, student goals, and school priorities.
  2. Write SMART goals and behaviorally anchored objectives for staff training.
  3. Select and justify interactive training strategies rooted in adult learning theory.
