General CEU: Slices of ACTion: A 6-part mini-series on Acceptance and Commitment Training - Part 5: Acceptance

Acceptance in Slices of ACTion (Part 5) is the kind of topic that looks straightforward until it collides with the speed, ambiguity, and competing demands of case conceptualization, intervention design, staff training, and literature-informed problem solving. In Acceptance in Slices of ACTion (Part 5), for this course, the practical stakes show up in stronger conceptual consistency and better translational decision making, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

In the fifth slice of the Slices of ACTion mini-series, we embrace acceptance—the process of allowing uncomfortable or unwanted experiences without trying to avoid, escape, or control them. Acceptance helps us navigate the discomfort that can accompany committed action and present moment engagement, increasing our flexible repertoires. During this presentation and its embedded ACTivity, you'll learn how embracing acceptance allows you to act in line with your values, even when faced with difficult emotions or thoughts. Whether you're just beginning your Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) journey or looking to deepen your understanding, grab a bite of the Slices of ACTion mini-series. The modules in this mini-series are designed to be interconnected, but each one can also stand alone if that's what is best for you.

What You'll Learn

  1. Describe the concept of acceptance as a core process in Acceptance and Commitment Training.
  2. Explain how embracing acceptance supports values-aligned action even in the presence of difficult emotions.
  3. Identify strategies for practicing acceptance to increase flexible behavioral repertoires.

BCBA

Hi! I'm Tiffany N. Arango. I've been working in the field of ABA since 2011 and have been a BCBA since 2014. Growing up with family and friends with various diagnoses, I’ve always been passionate about creating supportive and welcoming environments for everyone. Whether I’m working with learners, family members, supervisees, or collaborators, I’m passionate about meeting people where they are. Using a values-based approach, I partner with individuals and organizations to support meaningful progress that helps them align with what's important to them. When I'm not working, you can find me completing fitness challenges with my hubby, going on adventures with my nieces and nephews, or cuddled up on the couch with my “fur-children” and a good book.
