General CEU: Current participation by women in behavior analysis

Current participation by women in behavior analysis is the kind of topic that looks straightforward until it collides with the speed, ambiguity, and competing demands of supervision meetings, staff training, clinic systems, and performance review. In Current participation by women in behavior analysis, for this course, the practical stakes show up in better performance, lower drift, and more sustainable team development, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

Women's participation in the client-centered level of behavior analysis is much higher than that of men. However, female representation in various aspects of the field has much room for growth and improvement. I will first begin by discussing women in direct service, by certification level. Next, I will discuss gender-based leadership discrepancies. Moving further up, I will discuss women published in academic journals. Finally, I will discuss the representation of women regarding professional fellowships and awards. These conversations are based on a completed research study, one currently in progress, and one to come in the future.

What You'll Learn

  1. Compare the key concepts and principles discussed in Current participation by women in behavior analysis.
  2. Evaluate how the themes presented in Current participation by women in behavior analysis relate to current behavior analytic practice.
  3. Apply the practical implications of Current participation by women in behavior analysis for behavior analysts in professional settings.

I am a freelance researcher in the field of gender equity and a PhD student in Sociology at UC Davis. I started in ABA in 2005 and have shifted into researching gender inequities in female-dominated fields, the impact of research publications on women, and inequity in the tenure and promotion process in higher education. During my time in school, I have taught several courses and found strategies to be helpful for me in my role as an adjunct and as a teaching assistant. Some of these strategies I have written about for publication (others I have taught informally in workshops).Aside from all things school and research related, I enjoy swimming and riding my bike with my 8-year old daughter, baking, and reading nerdy fantasy or sci-fi books.
