General CEU: A Spoon Full of Sugar: Effective Practices in Behavioral Psychopharmacological Practices

A Spoon Full of Sugar: Effective Practices in Behavioral Psychopharmacological Practices matters because it changes what a BCBA notices when decisions have to hold up in joint consultation, shared care planning, school-team communication, and interdisciplinary handoffs. In A Spoon Full of Sugar: Effective Practices in Behavioral Psychopharmacological Practices, for this course, the practical stakes show up in clearer roles, fewer duplicated efforts, and better coordinated intervention, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

Effective treatment of complex behavior often requires interdisciplinary collaboration, which is no strange topic to behavior analysts. In this discussion, we will explore the integration of behavior analytic work and behavioral psychopharmacological practices in supporting individuals with challenging or dangerous behaviors. The primary emphasis of this discussion is placed on the role of behavior analysts in monitoring and evaluating medication effects through objective, data-based decision-making and how best to communicate those results with members of various disciplines. Additionally, Dr. Spiker will highlight how collaborative practices between behavior analysts and prescribing professionals can enhance treatment outcomes, improve communication across disciplines, and support ethical, person-centered care.

What You'll Learn

  1. Identify key features of psychopharmacological practices and their impact on behavior.
  2. Develop skills for effective science communication with pharmacological practices.
  3. Establish interdisciplinary relationships that foster desired treatment goals.
