Clinical Outcomes of a Hybrid Model Approach to Applied Behavioral Analysis Treatment.
Switching to electronic session notes and a simple dashboard bumped goal mastery by roughly a large share across 25 kids with autism.

What this study did
The team tested a hybrid ABA model on 25 kids with autism. They kept the same therapists and goals. They only added two things: electronic session notes and a simple tracking dashboard.
Staff typed quick notes on tablets after each session. The dashboard showed each child's progress every week. No extra therapy time was added.
What they found
Goal success rose from a large share to a large share — a a large share bump. Three out of four kids showed upward trends. Yet one in five goals still got worse.
The gains were small but real. The biggest win was faster spotting of stalled goals.
How this fits with other research
Dixon et al. (2016) showed that BCBA credentials help a little. This study adds that better data tools can also help a little. Both tweaks give modest gains, not magic jumps.
Ruppel et al. (2021) used a parent-only program and saw bigger gains. Their in-home Balance program cut problem behavior and lifted skills. The hybrid model here had smaller gains, likely because parents were not trained.
Cerasuolo et al. (2022) warn that no single factor guarantees success. This study fits that view. Electronic notes helped, but a large share of goals still slid back. Child factors still rule.
Miller (2017) urged clinics to track service-level data. This paper shows one cheap way to do it.
Why it matters
You can lift goal mastery by about a large share without adding staff or hours. Just switch from paper notes to a simple tablet form. Start Monday: pick one client, try electronic notes for a week, and watch the dashboard for early red flags.

Objective This study examines the implementation of a hybrid applied behavioral analysis (ABA) treatment model to determine its impact on autism spectrum disorder (ASD) patient outcomes. Methods Retrospective data were collected for 25 pediatric patients to measure progress before and after the implementation of a hybrid ABA treatment model under which therapists consistently captured session notes electronically regarding goals and patient progress. ABA treatment was streamlined for consistent delivery, with improved software utilization for tracking scheduling and progress. Eleven goals within three domains (behavioral, social, and communication) were examined. Results After the implementation of the hybrid model, the goal success rate improved by 9.7% compared to the baseline; 41.8% of goals showed improvement, 38.4% showed a flat trend, and 19.8% showed deterioration. Multiple goals trended upwards in 76% of the patients. Conclusion This pilot study demonstrated that enhancing the consistency with which ABA treatment is monitored/delivered can improve patient outcomes as seen through improved attainment of goals.
