Course Description

Ever wonder why some days you can't get started, even on things you want to do? Or why your to-do list is always overflowing, even though you're working non-stop? These common struggles: procrastination, poor time management, distraction, mental fatigue, aren't just personality quirks. They often point to executive function challenges, which are the mental skills that help us organize, plan, initiate, and follow through on tasks. In this CEU, we'll break down what executive function actually is (in a way that makes sense) and why even high-achieving behavior analysts and helping professionals struggle with it. Using real-life examples and behavior analytic principles, you'll learn how to identify EF breakdowns, what's maintaining them, and how to create sustainable systems that actually support you. This isn't just about "trying harder." It's about working smarter, with your brain, not against it.

What You'll Learn

  1. Identify at least three executive function challenges commonly experienced by high-achieving professionals, including those related to task initiation, time management, and emotional regulation.
  2. Describe how behavior analytic concepts (e.g., motivating operations, stimulus control, self-management) can explain and support executive function.
  3. Apply a behavior-analytic framework to develop practical, sustainable strategies for improving executive function in themselves or clients, especially in areas of productivity, focus, and task follow-through.
