Ethics CEU: Trauma-Informed to Trauma-Prepared; Neurologic & Somatic Experience of Trauma & How ABA Can Respond

Trauma does not simply reside in memory. It restructures the brain's threat detection systems, rewires arousal regulation, and reshapes how the body responds to the environment long after the traumatic event has ended.

Course Description

Trauma leaves an imprint not only on the mind, but on the brain and body — shaping how individuals perceive safety, respond to reinforcement, and persist in patterns of behavior. Through structured discussion, and practical assessment tools, you'll discover how to

What You'll Learn

  1. Describe how trauma alters neurological functioning in the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex, and identify how these changes impact perception, memory, and executive functioning in clients.
  2. Identify and differentiate physiological and behavioral indicators of hyperarousal, optimal arousal, and hypoarousal states, and explain how these states influence readiness for learning.
  3. Apply trauma-informed ABA strategies, including antecedent adjustments and reinforcement recalibration, to support learners impacted by trauma.
