Symposium: Innovations in Behavior Analytic Practice and Learning is the kind of topic that looks straightforward until it collides with the speed, ambiguity, and competing demands of language assessment, teaching sessions, caregiver coaching, and natural communication routines. In Innovations in Behavior Analytic Practice and Learning, for this course, the practical stakes show up in clearer case conceptualization, better instructional targets, and stronger generalization, not in abstract discussion alone.

This metanalysis sought to provide data on effectiveness of FCT with and without extinction. Notably 40 studies met inclusion criteria (after screening 1753 studies) for this metanalysis. Data extraction included participant demographics (i.e., communication modality, age); behavioral assessment (i.e., functional analysis design, topography of problem behavior, and hypothesized function of behavior); and intervention characteristics (i.e., teaching approach, implementer). Also, effect sizes were calculated for included studies, as well as denoting quality indicators based on Council for Exceptional Children criteria. Paper 2: Equivalence-based Instruction and Applications to Music Education Equivalence-based Instruction (EBI) is a behavior analytic teaching methodology designed to increase the efficiency of skill acquisition protocols by incorporating the principles of stimulus equivalence (Sidman, 1971). This method of generative instruction allows for untaught relations amongst stimuli to emerge without direct teaching. Empirical demonstrations of EBI as they relate to the acquisition of music-related skills amongst typically developing and neurodiverse populations exist in the peer-reviewed literature. (e.g., Griffith et al., 2018; Hill et al., 2020). The present talk makes a case for generative instruction, particularly EBI, and explores documented and proposed applications to music-related skills (e.g., reading musical notation, playing an instrument). Paper 3: Optimizing BCBA Effectiveness through Workflow Validation and Data-Informed Training Interventions This symposium will walk the participants through the process we have followed to develop performance metrics that our BCBA's are measured by. It will show our current system, and why it is useful in ensuring that all of our clients are receiving a high standard of care. Next it will walk through the process of developing such a system, starting with the first few metrics that are measured and building it up from there. Finally, we will go through some of the critical lessons we learned along the way, that we wish we would have known before. By the end of the symposium, participants will understand the benefits that can be gained from measuring their BCBA's performance and implementing a system that holds them accountable. They will also have the beginnings of an understanding of how to build their own custom system to invest in the clinical growth of their BCBA's.

Amy Crye holds a Master of Science in Behavior Analysis from the University of North Texas. With over 20 years of experience, she has utilized her training in Behavior Analysis to mentor and coach BCBAs and trainees in designing and implementing effective educational and behavioral programs for children and adults. Crye has collaborated with more than 100 school districts to help them serve their students by enhancing existing programs and developing new ones to meet diverse student needs. Her work has emphasized program development, competency-based training for staff, and quality assurance. In her role as Director of Services with Behavior Services of the Rockies, Crye works with other members of the Leadership Team to ensure clients receive appropriate and high-quality services. She also actively seeks opportunities to provide services for families in underserved areas. Crye has authored numerous presentations for local, regional, and international conferences, sharing valuable information with fellow behavior analysts and professionals in related fields. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals. In her volunteer outreach activities, Crye serves as Secretary of the Colorado Association for Behavior Analysis (COABA) Dissemination Committee. She actively works with the committee’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) and Newsletter subgroups to make information on Behavior Analysis more available to Colorado communities. Additionally, Crye is a dedicated member of the COABA Conference Planning Committee. Her focus is on providing opportunities for Colorado RBTs, BCaBAs, BCBAs, and trainees to share their work. As a Boulder, CO local, she enjoys hiking in the Rockies and supporting Boulder’s music and theater venues.
