General CEU: Skill Retention Through A Competency-Based Training Program

Skill Retention Through A Competency-Based Training Program is the kind of topic that looks straightforward until it collides with the speed, ambiguity, and competing demands of case conceptualization, intervention design, staff training, and literature-informed problem solving. In Skill Retention Through A Competency-Based Training Program, for this course, the practical stakes show up in stronger conceptual consistency and better translational decision making, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

From the earliest practice of behavior analysis, the need for effective training of support staff was identified (Frazier, 1972). At that time research into staff-training procedures began (Reid & Whitman, 1983) and continues to this day. The need to effectively and successfully train support staff is critical for best client outcomes. This session will discuss the effects of Behavioral Skills Training and a competency/skill based training program on the skill acquisition and retention of those working in the direct service field. Using this program not only was increased skill acquisition and retention realized but additional unintended benefits as well.
