There are numerous important methodological, conceptual, and applied issues related to gender-biased behaviors. In this presentation, we will discuss a study (Oda et al., 2022) published in the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior (JEAB) that examined the effects of female and male audiences on gender-biased verbal behavior using an online chat analog. Participants were 28 adults. Both overt and covert responses were recorded for the following behaviors: disagreeing, interrupting, pressuring, and self-editing. Differentiated responding across genders for disagreeing, interrupting, and pressuring was observed for some participants. Finally, this presentation will discuss some ways behavior analysts can promote culturally sensitive and gender-inclusive practices. Learning (CE) objectives: At the conclusion of the presentation, participants will be able to: · Describe why studying gender is important · Describe methods for conducting research on self-editing and gender-biased verbal behavior · Describe ways to promote culturally sensitive practices and gender inclusivity
