Relational Frame Theory and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy matters because it changes what a BCBA notices when decisions have to hold up in language assessment, teaching sessions, caregiver coaching, and natural communication routines. In Relational Frame Theory and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, for this course, the practical stakes show up in clearer case conceptualization, better instructional targets, and stronger generalization, not in abstract discussion alone.

This presentation will provide an overview of RFT with an emphasis of the role of relational learning within "intelligent" human behavior. Applications of RFT technologies with autistic learners shows a clear progression in relational and verbal abilities, as well as demonstrable improvements in intelligence and cognition. RFT underlies ACT that seeks to improve psychological flexibility to promote positive behavior change. The presentation will also provide an overview of ACT for behavior analysts with case examples of ACT applied directly within behavior analytic settings. Together, these two concepts are part of a scientific revolution taking place in our field today, and will be pivotal in shaping our field of tomorrow.
