Course Description

Pediatric feeding disorder (PFD) is a complex, multifactorial concern that often requires an interdisciplinary approach to achieve meaningful and sustainable outcomes. This symposium brings together experts on PFD to present current research and clinical innovations incorporating both antecedent and reinforcement-based strategies to address feeding concerns. Topics will focus on effective strategies to increase food acceptance, reduce challenging mealtime behaviors, and support skill acquisition for age-appropriate eating. In addition, the importance of systematically measuring secondary variables such as oral hygiene, stool type, and symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort will be discussed in relation to feeding treatment outcomes. As such, attendees will gain insight into comprehensive, individualized approaches that integrate research and practice across diverse feeding challenges.

What You'll Learn

  1. Describe evidence-based antecedent and reinforcement strategies used to improve food acceptance in children with Pediatric Feeding Disorder (PFD).
  2. Identify the role of secondary variables important to consider during treatment outcomes for PFD.
  3. Explain how behavioral approaches can support age-appropriate eating in children with PFD.
