General CEU: Next is Now: Navigating professional transitions in ABA

Next is Now: Navigating professional transitions in ABA becomes clinically important the moment a team has to turn good intentions into reliable action inside supervision meetings, staff training, clinic systems, and performance review. In Next is Now: Navigating professional transitions in ABA, for this course, the practical stakes show up in better performance, lower drift, and more sustainable team development, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

Transitions in our professional lives are like navigating through uncharted waters; they offer the challenge of change and the opportunity for new beginnings. Throughout one's lifetime there are several transitions that we encounter. Some people view transitions as a negative process that may bring on feelings of anxiety, but it can also be a smooth process with the right mindset and preparation (Ecclestone, 2009). My experience with transitions has encompassed both perspectives, and I have learned how to navigate them from those who have assisted along the way. Although research does not explicitly highlight professional transitions in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis, there are strategies within education and psychology that are useful for ABA professionals. Fenwick (2013) describes how educators focus on equipping and assisting individuals to manage transitions successfully through workplace learning and educational processes. Gathering information from both research and my personal experience will offer useful strategies for navigating professional transitions. By providing actionable strategies, attendees will walk away equipped and empowered to smoothly embrace professional transitions as an ABA professional.

What You'll Learn

  1. Identify common professional transitions encountered by ABA practitioners throughout their careers.
  2. Describe evidence-based strategies from education and psychology for navigating professional transitions in ABA.
  3. Apply preparation and mindset techniques to manage career transitions effectively and reduce associated anxiety.
