General CEU: Moving Forward During Challenging Times: A Behavioral-Community Approach for Collaborative Action

Moving Forward During Challenging Times: A Behavioral-Community Approach for Collaborative Action is the kind of topic that looks straightforward until it collides with the speed, ambiguity, and competing demands of community routines and natural environments. In Moving Forward During Challenging Times: A Behavioral-Community Approach for Collaborative Action, for this course, the practical stakes show up in clearer roles, fewer duplicated efforts, and better coordinated intervention, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

Addressing problems of significant societal concern requires collaborative, community-driven, and socially-valid approaches. This presentation explores the application of behavioral community psychology to advance community action through multisector partnerships as a form of social validation. The historical and current opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration between applied behavior analysis and other fields to tackle issues of societal importance is highlighted. Emphasis is placed on addressing structural and social determinants as setting events that impact access to services, particularly for high-burden communities. The Youth Violence Prevention Center–Kansas City serves as a case example, illustrating collaborative strategies for addressing youth violence. Opportunities to expand our research and facilitate systemic change through collaborative action will be discussed.
