General CEU: Invited Address: Measuring Outcomes of Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention for Children with Autism and Their Families

Measuring Outcomes of Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention for Children with Autism and Their Families matters because it changes what a BCBA notices when decisions have to hold up in caregiver coaching, home routines, team meetings, and values-sensitive decision making. In Measuring Outcomes of Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention for Children with Autism and Their Families, for this course, the practical stakes show up in better alignment between intervention and the family context in which it must survive, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

Behavior analysts are actively discussing the outcomes associated with treatment services for individuals with autism spectrum disorders, including what to measure, how to measure it, the timing of the measurement, and sources of the data. This presentation describes the outcomes measurement approach at Action Behavior Centers and how that data is shared with families, funders, and the scientific community at large. Finally, several recent analyses of the effects of EIBI on parenting stress and challenging behavior are presented.

What You'll Learn

  1. Describe the difference between proximal and distal outcomes.
  2. Describe why PROMs matter to a comprehensive evaluation of outcomes.
  3. Describe the effects of one year of EIBI on reported parenting stress.
