General CEU: Curtains Up! Cross-Discipline Collaboration in Theater Class for Learners with ASD

Course Description

Are you looking for a novel way to address your learners' speech and behavior goals? This presentation will walk you through a modified 7-week theater curriculum, co-created and co-taught by a BCBA and Speech and Language Pathologist. We'll examine the preparation process, the individualized use of AAC devices and behavior plans, our data collection methods, and the role of each specialist involved.

What You'll Learn

  1. Demonstrate a foundational understanding on how to implement a modified theater program in their setting.
  2. Identify the role and responsibilities of each specialist involved, along with tips for effective collaboration & review a number of AAC options, and describe how to work with an SLP to select and program the best choice for each learner.
  3. Describe how to establish a meaningful (and fun!) experience for all participants, while also addressing their behavior and speech goals.
