General CEU: Behavior Analysis and Artificial Intelligence: Promoting Equity in Algorithms

Behavior Analysis and Artificial Intelligence: Promoting Equity in Algorithms becomes clinically important the moment a team has to turn good intentions into reliable action inside documentation workflows, supervision meetings, treatment planning, and quality review. In Promoting Equity in Algorithms, for this course, the practical stakes show up in faster workflow without clinical drift, privacy loss, or weak oversight, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

As technology evolves, we're witnessing many ways Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the world within and outside Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Researchers have documented numerous cases of bias in AI systems as AI technologies continue to advance. This has led to growing concerns surrounding racial bias embedded within AI algorithms that not only perpetuate ongoing societal inequalities but also erode public trust in AI systems. The intersection of behavior analysis and AI is an emerging area of focus. We aim to leverage the science of behavior to mitigate racial bias within algorithms. Recognizing the pivotal role of cultural dimensions in bias is essential within behavior analysis. Biased AI systems pose a significant risk of impeding advancements in social justice. Through Relational Frame Theory (RFT), participants will explore how altering relational frames might be applied to promote equity in AI systems. Participants will gain insight into how AI algorithms perpetuate racial biases and explore the potential implications of these biases. Participants will explore how the intersection of behavior analysis and AI might be leveraged to address and mitigate racial biases within AI systems. Participants will consider how Relational Frame Theory could play a role in advancing equity and fairness within AI systems.
