Conditioned reinforcement is one of the foundational concepts in behavior analysis, yet its systematic application to the training of behavior analytic practitioners themselves remains underexplored. Clicker training — originally developed for animal learning and subsequently applied to human sports performance coaching — offers a precision reinforcement delivery mechanism that addresses one of the most persistent challenges in ABA staff training: the gap between knowing what to do and doing it fluently under the dynamic conditions of actual client sessions.

Clicker training has also been combined with other behavioral strategies in a curriculum known as TAGteach. The literature has shown this approach to be successful at improving golf swings, dance movements, football passes, and yoga poses. An auditory conditioned reinforcer in the form of a clicker was recently used to improve clinical skills of front-line ABA workers. This event will review the history of clicker training and its application to ABA supervision. The last 15 minutes are dedicated to an applied activity where attendees will learn how to utilize a preference assessment and a conditioned reinforcer to increase accuracy of staff clinical skills.
