General CEU: They Haven't Fired Me Yet!: How to Maintain Employment from my Perspective as an Autistic Therapist

They Haven't Fired Me Yet!: How to Maintain Employment from my Perspective as an Autistic Therapist matters because it changes what a BCBA notices when decisions have to hold up in community routines and natural environments. In They Haven't Fired Me Yet: How to Maintain Employment from my Perspective as an Autistic Therapist, for this course, the practical stakes show up in better alignment between intervention and the family context in which it must survive, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

Employment remains a significant barrier for the autistic community. As someone with autism who has been working for the past decade, I will discuss tools that have helped me keep my job. My goal is to encourage parents to plan for the acquisition of necessary skills for successful employment, particularly those that are often overlooked. I also want to offer options for the implementation of innovative accommodations in the workplace.

What You'll Learn

  1. Apply the workplace skills critical for maintaining long-term employment that are often overlooked in transition planning.
  2. Explain innovative workplace accommodations that support autistic employees in sustaining meaningful employment.
  3. Identify practical tools and self-advocacy strategies that promote job retention from the perspective of an autistic professional.
