General CEU: The Functional Behavior Assessment Interview: An Organized Approach to Gathering Information and Communicating Compassion

The Functional Behavior Assessment Interview: An Organized Approach to Gathering Information and Communicating Compassion matters because it changes what a BCBA notices when decisions have to hold up in clinic sessions and day-to-day service delivery. In The Functional Behavior Assessment Interview: An Organized Approach to Gathering Information and Communicating Compassion, for this course, the practical stakes show up in clearer roles, fewer duplicated efforts, and better coordinated intervention, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

Clinical-behavior analysts use clinical interviewing as part of a behavioral assessment. For instance, before a direct assessment can be performed, behavior analysts interview caregivers to gather background information; determine a working definition of behaviors of concern; identifying possible antecedents and reinforcing consequences; and develop testable hypotheses of behavior function. Strong clinical interviewing skills are required to design synthesized FA conditions, integrate compassionate care approaches, apply behavior analytic "soft-skills" to foster collaboration, and identify and respond to important cultural differences. This workshop will provide behavior analysts with an overview of the clinical interview process, its aims, and objectives. Participants will learn core communication skills that support effective gathering and sharing of clinical information. Specifics will include strategies and techniques for developing rapport and "bond" with informants, active listening, conveying empathy, and interrupting/redirecting unfocused exchanges sensitively. Participants will learn how these are applied in the context of a clinical interview for behavioral function. CLICK HERE to learn more and register for the series
