Join Free →Many new behavior analysts struggle with fluency when translating between precise behavioral terminology and lay language. In this presentation, we model how to approach several foundation-level behavioral principles when teaching them or discussing them with teachers, parents, or other non-ABA professionals. First, we explore respondent conditioning, reframing it as "automatic learning" and discuss stimulus-response pairings in a variety of contexts outside of Pavlov's lab. Then, we explore the basics of discriminating between positive and negative reinforcement and punishment, followed by how to relatably teach extinction. Finally, we review several different group or classroom intervention styles that can be used by teachers or even parents at home and model how to discuss the benefits and methodologies of these programs in lay language.
