Course Description

(Inglés con interpretación simultánea al español-English with simoultaneous interpretation to Spanish) Individuals diagnosed with autism face many barriers to needed supports. Among those barriers for adolescents and adults is access to professionals who have expertise in assessment and intervention for complex communication needs, severe self-injurious behavior, and vocational training. Our team has been conducting behavioral assessments and intervention support via telehealth since 2015. In this presentation, we will highlight three cases that presented distinct challenges for remote assessment and treatment. For each, we will describe the challenge, how we overcame it via specific behavioral methods, technology, or both, and data depicting the resulting outcomes. Detailed description of the methodological and technological approaches will be provided and implications for practice will be discussed.

What You'll Learn

  1. Problem solve technology issues related to service delivery via telehealth.
  2. Consider a variety of alternative approaches to functional analysis of severe self-injurious behavior via telehealth.
  3. Discuss approaches to collaboration and developing and sustaining rapport with individuals and their families via telehealth.
