Join Free →Burnout is a significant threat to ethical and sustainable practice in behavior analysis, with studies reporting moderate-to-high burnout among many practitioners (e.g., 72% in a sample of 826 ABA providers; Slowiak & DeLongchamp, 2021). This presentation reframes burnout as more than exhaustion, integrating research and lived experience, especially for neurodivergent (ND) professionals, for whom masking, sensory load, and executive-function strain can intensify risk. Participants will learn to recognize key indicators of burnout, understand neurodivergent-specific contributors, and apply an ACTr-informed lens to increase psychological flexibility. Emphasis is placed on values alignment, energy-based productivity, job crafting, and ND-affirming self-advocacy as ethical responsibilities that maintain competence and protect client dignity. Attendees will leave with practical tools and a plan for one values-aligned, ND-affirming committed action to support sustainable, effective practice.
