Join Free →This talk will cover the need for sexuality education for disability populations including those with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, Acquired Brian Injuries, and others. A brief review of the current state of sex education within and outside of ABA will be provided, setting the stage for the need for behaviour analysts to increase our involvement in this part of the field. Essential skills that behaviour analysts have that contribute will be reviewed, as well as the ways that behaviour analysts need to step up our game if we want to provide meaningful contributions to improvements to quality of life for those we serve, focussing on sexuality education.

Dr. Cauchi is a behaviour analyst that has worked with people on the autism spectrum for over 20 years. Jessica received her Ph.D. in Applied Behavior Analysis from Endicott College and is a doctoral level Board Certified Behaviour Analyst, as well as a Certified Progressive Behaviour Analyst – Autism Professional. She has married her teaching interests with a strong background in clinical practise, and brings this experience into her research and teaching. Jessica’s research interests are heavily driven by clinical experiences. As such, Dr. Cauchi is interested in research and clinical practise in curriculum development and effective teaching practises in sexuality skills for persons on the autism spectrum, meaningful programming, rapport and assent, and progressive ABA. She has published work in these areas as well as presented on these topics across Canada and internationally.
