General CEU: Sexual Behavior - Research & Practice

Sexual Behavior - Research & Practice matters because it changes what a BCBA notices when decisions have to hold up in clinic sessions and day-to-day service delivery. In Research & Practice, for this course, the practical stakes show up in stronger conceptual consistency and better translational decision making, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

Sex and sexuality is an area of competence that is widely discussed but sorely lacking in application and research. Behavior analysts are highly likely to encounter clinically and socially significant challenges related to sexuality, even in treatment settings where these concerns might not be as overt. Given the nature of these types of behaviors as well as the populations we commonly work with, our work in this area is complex and requires a special level of care. In this discussion, Dr. Shane T. Spiker will highlight some of the common and uncommon challenges that arise in this behavior and provide some next steps for the audience to begin developing the necessary tools to begin work in sex and sexuality.

What You'll Learn

  1. Identify common challenges within the realm of sexuality.
  2. Conceptualize sexual health in a behavior analytic framework.
  3. Determine next steps for working in this area of practice.
