Course Description

This panel will discuss the scope of the biomarker testing coverage bills that have recently passed in 22 states with support of ACS CAN and other patient and provider groups and the role of these laws in improving access to molecular diagnostic testing for cancer, and their impact on access to other types of testing. The panel will also discuss where state biomarker bills stand and what will they mean in terms of quality, impact and costs.

About the Instructor

John Fox
MD, MHA

John Fox, MD MHA, is current the Senior Medical Director for the Americas for Illumina, where he is accountable for working with payers and employers to expand access to genomic testing and personalized medicine across oncology, cardiology, women’s health and rare disease. He served as the Associate Chief Medical Officer at Priority Health from 2000- 2019. He was responsible for technology assessment, policy development, and physician pay-for-performance programs. He was also responsible for multiple benefit innovations, including shared decision making, digital therapeutics, advanced care planning, surgical optimization initiatives, value-based benefit designs and contracts, oncology medical home programs, and personalized genomic medicine initiatives. In June 2019 he became the Vice President of Clinical Transformation of Spectrum Health Systems, the parent company for Priority Health, and the Executive Medical Director for the West Michigan ACO.   Dr. Fox earned his BS in chemistry and biochemistry in 1983 from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD, in 1989.  He completed his residency in pediatrics in 1992 and fellowship with the CDC's Epidemic Intelligence Service in 1996.
