Pairing is the foundational process through which the behavior analyst or therapist establishes themselves as a conditioned reinforcer in the eyes of the learner. Before instruction begins, and before demands are introduced, the practitioner must pair their presence with items, activities, and events that the learner already finds reinforcing.
