Performance feedback is one of the most powerful tools available to ABA supervisors — and one of the most frequently misapplied. Research on feedback in organizational settings consistently demonstrates that the quality and style of feedback delivery determines whether feedback improves performance, maintains it, or actively degrades it through the aversive conditioning of supervision contacts.

You can find part 1 here, but even if you missed it, this training has all you need to learn the basics... and then some! Non Violent Communication (NVC) can be a powerful framework to provide feedback to those you supervise. NVC integrates qualities like empathy, sincerity, and respect to facilitate good relationships between you, your supervisee, and the families they serve. Since most BCBAs work with children with autism, working with these families requires critical interpersonal skills. (Taylor et al 2018). Feedback is a powerful tool that lets us know how we are doing. Characteristics of performance feedback are important for supervisors to be effective in changing the behavior of others. Increasing competence in the listener repertoires of supervisors is a crucial step in successful behavior change. This training will combine the tools used in NVC such as listening, empathy, sincerity, and respect with evidence-based feedback strategies. In short, combining NVC with performance feedback institutes a framework to maximize performance outcomes. Learning Objectives: Implement nonviolent communication strategies when giving performance feedbackUnderstand the applied skills that must be balanced with competency in relationship-building skills that strengthen treatment integrity.Enhance the listener and speaker repertoires of practicing behavior analysts with examples and tools of effective feedback.
