Course Description

In this presentation we will review the rationale behind the importance of teaching sexual education topics to individuals with disabilities. We will utilize the most current research as well as draw from current experts in the field to include reviewing AASECT guidelines. We will explore the ethical, cultural, and personal values/biases considerations and resources for teaching about this extremely important topic. Additionally, safety concerns/ potential triggering statistics will be discussed; appropriate warning will be given to participants.

Erin Guiffre is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Virginia, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and Licensed Behavior Analyst in the State of Virginia. Erin has been working in the mental health field for over 10 years. Erin has vast experience working with children and adolescents who are diagnosed with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental Delay, Dual Diagnosis, and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Additionally, Erin has worked with individuals struggling with Anxiety, Depression, LBGT Concerns, and Eating Disorders. Erin is currently pursuing her AASECT Certification to be a Sexuality Educator.
