Ethics CEU: Journey to Independent Practice: Demystified

Course Description

According to the US Employment Demand for Behavior Analysts: 2010-2022 report released by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), the demand for individuals holding a BCBA or BCBA-D has increased each year since 2010, with a 23% increase from 2021 to 2022 alone. Yet, even with such astounding numbers, there remains a substantial need for ABA services. The independent practice model provides an opportunity for ABA practitioners to customize their approach by utilizing their unique talents, interests, and skills to create specialized services. This ultimately creates a world of highly specialized practitioners who can extend services to all who would benefit from them. Yet, this model poses a challenge: the business of practice. We didn't go to business school after all! This course has been fundamentally designed to demystify the steps you'll need to take to start your business and launch your independent practice.

What You'll Learn

  1. Describe key factors to examine before starting a practice, including legal and ethical considerations.
  2. Describe elements to consider when setting up a practice.
  3. Describe common mistakes and how to avoid these.

Charity Steele
BCBA

Charity Steele is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who has owned and operated an independent ABA practice in Northern California for nearly 14 years. She believes this model offers the field of behavior analysis a tremendous opportunity to extend its reach while simultaneously providing behavior analysts the ability to develop a practice around their specialized services. This ultimately creates a world of highly specialized practitioners who can extend services to all who would benefit from them. However, Charity recognizes one of the potential challenges is learning how to establish, operate, and thrive in practice. BCBAs didn't go to business school after all! To help behavior analysts overcome this barrier, she has dedicated her practice to teaching the skills, strategies and techniques that contributed to the success of her clients and practice.
