General CEU: Increasing Black Excellence in Research: Empowering Black Women to Excel as Practitioners and Researchers

Increasing Black Excellence in Research: Empowering Black Women to Excel as Practitioners and Researchers matters because it changes what a BCBA notices when decisions have to hold up in case conceptualization, intervention design, staff training, and literature-informed problem solving. In Increasing Black Excellence in Research: Empowering Black Women to Excel as Practitioners and Researchers, for this course, the practical stakes show up in stronger conceptual consistency and better translational decision making, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

The significance of diversifying research in the field of applied behavior analysis cannot be overstated. This presentation aims to address the critical need for increased representation of Black women in research and more advanced roles, particularly within the realm of applied behavior analysis and evidence-based practices (Cirincione-Ulezi, 2020). While there has been progress in including children of color in research studies, the representation of Black women as researchers remains disproportionately low (Rotta et al., 2021). This presentation will explore pathways for women to engage in meaningful research and publication efforts without the necessity of entering a Ph.D. program. Emphasizing practical approaches, the session will provide insights into publishing in academic journals and practitioner pieces, presenting at conferences, and other avenues for contributing to the body of research. By empowering Black women to become more than just practitioners, we aim to enrich the field with diverse perspectives and enhance the quality of evidence-based practices for individuals with special needs.
