Course Description

A practical application of motor imitation goals, listener responding goals, and more! Have you ever been teaching goals in the VB-MAPP, ABLLS-R, etc., and wondering how you can make these skills more functional? Curious how you can ensure your client is able to engage in appropriate motor imitation, listener responding, and more in a community setting? This CEU course will explore how yoga can serve as a naturalistic and engaging way to target these essential skills while promoting regulation and engagement. Research published in The Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis (JABA) has shown that yoga interventions can help reduce aggression, self-injury, and anxiety in children with ASD while increasing their ability to follow instructions and participate in group activities. By embedding goals into meaningful movement, we can move beyond contrived teaching and help learners apply these skills in real-life situations.

What You'll Learn

  1. Identify how motor imitation, listener responding, and other foundational skills from the VB-MAPP and ABLLS-R can be embedded into yoga-based activities to enhance functional learning.
  2. Describe the evidence-based benefits of yoga for individuals with ASD, including its impact on reducing aggression, self-injury, and anxiety, as supported by research from The Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis (JABA).
  3. Demonstrate strategies for implementing yoga as a naturalistic teaching approach to promote generalization of skills in community settings, ensuring meaningful engagement beyond the instructional environment.
