As people interact with each other in a workplace and set out to achieve overlapping goals, emotions run high and conflict is likely to arise. In fact, workplace conflict is very common in human care service provision as caregivers, professionals from different disciplines, other stakeholders, direct staff, and supervisors work with each other. Effective leadership involves surfacing workplace conflict and successfully navigating challenging conversations to achieve resolution for all parties involved in conflict. Therefore, effective conflict management is an essential skill for every leader. In this talk we will discuss how to approach conflict, take others' perspectives, find common values, problem solve to identify workable resolutions, and strengthen relationships. Learning Objectives: Identify when it is best to approach, instead of avoid, conflict in the workplace Identify factors that create conflicts in the workplace Describe how to apologize in a manner that is received as genuine and sincere
