General CEU: Current Advancements in Advocacy, Collaboration, and Practice for Behavior Analysis in Child Welfare, Human Trafficking, and Juvenile Justice

Current Advancements in Advocacy, Collaboration, and Practice for Behavior Analysis in Child Welfare, Human Trafficking, and Juvenile Justice belongs in serious BCBA study because it shapes whether behavior-analytic decisions stay useful once they leave a clean training example and enter joint consultation, shared care planning, school-team communication, and interdisciplinary handoffs. In Current Advancements in Advocacy, Collaboration, and Practice for Behavior Analysis in Child Welfare, Human Trafficking, and Juvenile Justice, for this course, the practical stakes show up in clearer roles, fewer duplicated efforts, and better coordinated intervention, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

This symposium will feature four presentations related to enhancing efforts to expand behavior analysis in the fields of child welfare, juvenile justice, and human trafficking. The first presentation will describe an intervention model for decreasing youth runaway behavior in foster care and a national agency that is successfully implementing the model with positive outcomes. The second paper will describe a collaboration between ABA and criminology to determine markers for success related to a housing program for victims of human trafficking. The third study will describe recent advocacy work to promote and increase funding for behavior analysis services in juvenile justice facilities. Finally, the last study will describe a study that increased staff behavior-specific praise at a Florida juvenile detention facility. These four presentations will highlight the importance of collaboration and advocating for behavior analysis services to improve outcomes for youth in juvenile justice and child welfare settings. Dr. Mark T. Harvey, Associate Professor in the School of Behavior Analysis at Florida Tech, faculty advisor for the Florida Tech Forensic Club, and executive board member of the ABAI Crime, Delinquency, and Forensic Behavior Analysis SIG, will chair the symposium.
