Firstly, redirection is an evidence-based practice that can be an effective strategy. Empirical studies have suggested that promoting functional engagement can either be effective alone or enhance the efficacy of redirection. Lastly, there are numerous procedural variations and treatment components packaged with redirection in the literature. Regardless of whether you are aiming to reduce disruptive stereotypy or treat automatically reinforced self-injury, these variations can guide the development of individualized and contextualized treatment packages that are efficacious and socially acceptable.
