General CEU: Behavior Analysis in Education within Tiered Systems of Support

Behavior Analysis in Education within Tiered Systems of Support is the kind of topic that looks straightforward until it collides with the speed, ambiguity, and competing demands of school teams and classroom routines. In Behavior Analysis in Education within Tiered Systems of Support, for this course, the practical stakes show up in clearer roles, fewer duplicated efforts, and better coordinated intervention, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

Schools utilize the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) frameworks to provide academic and behavioral support to students. These frameworks are organized into three tiers that aim to provide universal, targeted, and intensive support. In order to effectively implement MTSS for behavior and PBIS, it is important to have a solid understanding of the basic principles of behavior analysis. Although the application of ABA in school settings may vary due to numerous factors beyond our control, it is crucial that behavior analysts uphold their professional and ethical responsibilities while actively building and nurturing relationships on a daily basis.

What You'll Learn

  1. Describe the MTSS and PBIS frameworks.
  2. Review how the principles of behavior analysis are used in each tier of the three tiers.
  3. Discuss relationship-building and collaboration with educators and other professionals to support implementation of the MTSS and PBIS frameworks.
