General CEU: Bcba Ceu Recognizing And Responding To Spelling To Communicate

Recognizing And Responding To Spelling To Communicate belongs in serious BCBA study because it shapes whether behavior-analytic decisions stay useful once they leave a clean training example and enter language assessment, teaching sessions, caregiver coaching, and natural communication routines. In Recognizing And Responding To Spelling To Communicate, for this course, the practical stakes show up in clearer case conceptualization, better instructional targets, and stronger generalization, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

Spelling to communicate (S2C) is an increasingly popular albeit bogus method whose proponents claim unlocks hidden language and literacy skills in individuals with significant communication impairments.Originally a version of facilitated communication (FC) popular in the 1990s, S2C is again being often touted as and believed to be an augmentative and alternative communication approach, but no evidence exists to support this extraordinary claim.. Spelling to communicate has likely captured the attention of family members and various professionals because this variation of FC shapes prompt dependency from physical to gestural forms, thus giving the appearance of authentic and independent communication that is actually generated by the prompter. Like FC, S2C may lead to allegations of sexual and other abuse against those associated with the user, including family members, professionals, and peers. This webinar will overview differences and similarities between FC and S2C so stakeholders can readily recognize and resist these techniques. Attention also will be given to recent events that reflect and contribute to the growing popularity of spelling to communicate in schools and clinical settings, particularly social and popular media as well as prominent S2C users. Advice for responding to and resisting requests to allow or support spelling to communicate also will be shared. Agreed, giving unneeded cues is the issue at hand. Prompt dependence at its worst. I did not know this was going on in the world. I wonder if parents ever brought up FC as a hesitation of ABA and I believed they were misconstruing FCT. We live and we learn. This course looked at S2C in a comprehensive and yet compassionate way. I felt the speaker did a good job de-bunking S2C without getting ugly or derogatory. He simply shared the facts and evidence. I highly recommend this course to anyone who has heard of S2C or knows people considering it. Very timely and important message with clear steps and guidance on how to respond to S@C and SPM. I enjoyed this! This course gives you a practical understanding of the detrimental effects of interventions such as FC, S2C, and RPM. It gives you actionable steps to advocate for EBPs for your students and steps to protect yourself from malpractice. This training should be required for every special education/ related service provider and their administrators!
