Supervision CEU: Ethical and Collaborative Supervisory Relationships

The supervisory relationship in applied behavior analysis is not a bureaucratic requirement — it is a clinical relationship with real consequences for supervisee development, client outcomes, and the integrity of the profession. When that relationship is ethical and collaborative, supervisees develop the competencies, professional judgment, and ethical reasoning that the field requires.

Course Description

This event will help BCBAs establish and maintain an ethical and collaborative relationship between the supervisor and their trainee. Although there is minimal data to support effectiveness of supervision across different practices on trainee outcomes, the research articles help assist in establishing areas in which a BCBA may need improvement or where further research is needed so that a supervisor is in accordance with the BACB guidelines/curriculum and the Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts. The literature navigates the BCBA and trainee relationship in a way that is collaborative, frequently evaluating the effectiveness of procedures, outcomes, and quality of supervision, along with developing a relationship that will produce a more compassionate care of openness between the BCBA and their trainee. Both BCBAs and BCBA trainees can benefit from this training as it helps establish both roles and expectations needed to create a collaborative and ethical relationship.
