General CEU: Turning Challenges into Opportunities: Strategies for Line Technicians

Turning Challenges into Opportunities: Strategies for Line Technicians matters because it changes what a BCBA notices when decisions have to hold up in supervision meetings, staff training, clinic systems, and performance review. In Turning Challenges into Opportunities: Strategies for Line Technicians, for this course, the practical stakes show up in better performance, lower drift, and more sustainable team development, not in abstract discussion alone.

Line technicians play a vital role in supporting children with challenging behaviors, yet many feel unprepared or overwhelmed when faced with difficult moments. Turning Challenges into Opportunities: Strategies for Line Technicians is designed to provide practical, hands-on tools that staff can use immediately to feel more confident and effective in their work. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of why challenging behaviors occur, including the role of the environment, reinforcement, and the functions of behavior. They will also learn proactive strategies to reduce the likelihood of problem behavior, along with real-time techniques for responding calmly and effectively when challenges arise. The presentation emphasizes compassionate, skill-building approaches that transform moments of escalation into opportunities for growth. Special attention will be given to equipping line technicians with concrete skills such as rapport building, de-escalation techniques, and teaching replacement behaviors.
