General CEU: The Role of Joint Control in Listener Responses and Generative Responding

The Role of Joint Control in Listener Responses and Generative Responding matters because it changes what a BCBA notices when decisions have to hold up in language assessment, teaching sessions, caregiver coaching, and natural communication routines. In The Role of Joint Control in Listener Responses, for this course, the practical stakes show up in clearer case conceptualization, better instructional targets, and stronger generalization, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

This presentation talks about the role of joint control in listener responding, specifically, in manded selection responses. Several empirical studies were reviewed to demonstrate that both self-echoic and tact training are necessary for participants to select novel stimulus. Furthermore, a preliminary study was discussed to demonstrate that joint control could be used as a teaching technique to generate novel responses.

What You'll Learn

  1. Apply the components of listener responding and examples of listener skills in early behavioral intervention.
  2. Evaluate how stimulus control principles apply to simple and conditional discrimination training for listener behavior.
  3. Identify effective strategies for designing listener training programs for children with developmental disabilities.
