General CEU: The Importance of Executive Functioning, Assessment Tools and Treatment in kids with ADHD

The Importance of Executive Functioning, Assessment Tools and Treatment in kids with ADHD matters because it changes what a BCBA notices when decisions have to hold up in case conceptualization, intervention design, staff training, and literature-informed problem solving. In The Importance of Executive Functioning, Assessment Tools and Treatment, for this course, the practical stakes show up in stronger conceptual consistency and better translational decision making, not in abstract discussion alone.

Course Description

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. While these core symptoms are well-documented, an emerging body of research underscores the significant role of executive functioning deficits in ADHD. Executive functions, a set of cognitive processes responsible for goal-directed behavior, cognitive flexibility, and self-regulation, are often impaired in individuals with ADHD, contributing to difficulties in various domains of daily functioning. Understanding the nuanced interplay between executive functioning and ADHD is crucial for informing targeted interventions and therapeutic approaches aimed at ameliorating cognitive impairments and enhancing adaptive functioning in affected individuals with interventions that target both core symptoms and executive dysfunction to optimize long-term outcomes and improve quality of life for individuals with ADHD.
