Course Description

Despite the growing mainstream acceptance of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) may encounter numerous challenges when initiating an intervention program for their child. These include accessing timely interventions, evaluating multiple treatment options, navigating misinformation and criticisms of ABA, and dealing with professionals with varying perspectives on science-based interventions. Additionally, parents often grapple with broader community conflicts, such as debates over the appropriateness of "treatment," the dichotomy between awareness and acceptance, and differing terminologies like "autistic person" versus "individual with autism." These challenges can be daunting individually, and even more so when encountered collectively. This webinar will emphasize the pivotal role that behavior analysts can play in empowering parents to become effective advocates for their children. Our Next Guest Host: Bridget Taylor, PsyD, BCBA-D, is the co-founder and CEO of Alpine Learning Group and is Senior Clinical Advisor for Rethink Behavioral Health. She is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and a Licensed Psychologist. Dr. Taylor is past president of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board and past Associate Editor of the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis. She currently serves on the board of the Society for the Experimental Analysis of Behavior (SEAB). Active in the Autism research community, Dr. Taylor has published numerous peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters, on innovative practices to improve the lives of individuals with autism. Her most recent work explores compassionate relationship-building with families in the provision of clinical services to individuals with autism. Dr. Taylor has been recognized by the Association for Applied Behavior Analysis International for her outstanding contributions and received ABAI's Fellow designation. This Month's Guest: David Celiberti, PhD, BCBA-D, is the part time Executive Director of Association for Science in Autism Treatment and Past-President, a role he served from 2006 and 2012. He is the Co-Editor of ASAT's newsletter, Science in Autism Treatment. He received his PhD in clinical psychology from Rutgers University in 1993. Dr. Celiberti has served on a number of advisory boards and special interest groups in the field of autism, applied behavior analysis, and early childhood education, and been an active participant in local fundraising initiatives to support after school programming for economically disadvantaged children. He works in private practice and provides consultation to public and private schools and agencies in underserved areas. He has authored several articles in professional journals and presents frequently at regional, national, and international conferences. In prior positions, Dr. Celiberti taught courses related to applied behavior analysis (ABA) at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervised individuals pursuing BCBA certifications, and conducted research in the areas of ABA, family intervention, and autism.
