General CEU: Development of applied behavior analysis in Ukraine. Practical examples of work in ABA Center CHUDO.

The development of applied behavior analysis as a recognized professional discipline is not a uniform global process. In many regions of the world, ABA has emerged from grassroots efforts by practitioners who received training through international programs and returned to their home countries to build professional infrastructure from the ground up — without the institutional support, licensure frameworks, and established training pipelines that practitioners in North America take for granted.

Course Description

The Ukrainian Association of Behavioral Analysts is a young organization. It was founded by specialists who received behavioral education in VCS programs. The purpose of the organization is to create a professional society, a platform for the exchange of experience, and the development of the science of applied behavior analysis in Ukraine. Despite the fact that Ukraine was attacked by Russia in 2014, it was a time when the active formation of a professional community in Ukraine began. Now the number of behavior analysts is increasing, as is the number of specialists joining the association. The practice of the association members must meet the high level of quality of behavioral services and the code of ethics of behavioral analysts. Belonging to an association of specialists is a marker of the quality of practice. In Ukraine, families can receive behavioral services only in private centers. For example, in the ABA center of MIRACLE. The history of this center begins with Donetsk in 2013. It was the only ABA center in Ukraine. It served approximately 30 families. Since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the center was forced to close, and in 2015 it resumed its work in Mariupol. There, the areas of support for families of children with intellectual disabilities have expanded. More than 60 families received help in the center annually. In February 2022, this center was completely destroyed, but in August it resumed its work already in Kyiv.
