This course breaks down manding over the course of 5 videos. When creating this course, I wanted to really focus on what I WISH I knew as a new behavior analyst teaching manding. We go over a different article every video and break it down! The topics are

Abstract

Manding and early learner language is something that nearly every behavior analyst has worked with in some way or another. This topic covers everything from functional communication training as an intervention for challenging behavior to learning to say “Mom” for the first time. This is a pivotal skill and presents its own set of barriers to acquisition, and therefore warrants individual attention and programming. This training is designed to introduce you to the basics of setting up an individualized mand training procedure for each client. We will cover everything from ensuring the prerequisite skills are present to complex mands for information, and finally end with functional communication training, ensuring that each person who leaves this course has an understanding of how to program within the practice setting.

Learning Objectives

1. Participants will be able to name the common prerequisite skills for manding.
2. Participants will be able to set up basic mand training arrangements and describe the common pitfalls and limitations.
3. Participants will be able to describe the two different methods to increase mand acquisition speed in the clinical setting.
4. Participants will be able to describe the similarities and differences between setting up complex mand arrangements and basic mand arrangements.
5. Participants will be able to describe multiple methods of teaching and utilizing functional communication training as it relates to challenging behavior.
